Boomtown Rats ( Bob Geldoff )
Well,I am not a person who is afraid of rats. But my wife does and so do my kids except my eldest son.I know that the house that we are in does have rats problem.I don't really mind since I don't actually see them. But the wife keeps telling me to get rid of them.Well a few suggestions were made in the form of rat poison, pest controller and so on.I don't really want to use any of these methods because I simply don't believe in them. When I was a kid,we usually have two ways of catching rats. Both of them effective but only one is deadly cruel. The other is a cage with a bait, and the rat will be trapped once it touched the bait. But during those days,it also meant the end of the world for the creature. We would just put the cage in a drain with flowing water and the poor bugger would just drown. Some chose to splash hot boiling water or just let nature ran its course, leaving it to die in the hot sun.Well, I have a thing about taking the life of another of ALLAH's creation. So today,I decided to buy the cage from the hardware store for RM8-90.It was gleaming new and I took it home on my ever reliable yamaha ss110.Got home and showed it to the wife and the kids.Kids nowadays are so inquisitive.Asking and waiting for explaination. So I did show them how the cage works. Then I went to the kitchen and got me a tiny bit of salted gelama fish.My wife told me to chuck the bit of fish into the fire so that it would have an inviting smell. So I did. What a smell it made.Put the bait into the cage and placed the open cage next to the fridge. All this happened under the scrutinying eyes of my four kids.My eldest was not there,he was out with friends. Then I went out to see a friend. My kids stayed home with the wife.Told them that we'd go out for dinner later tonight. We went out for dinner at about 9pm, my eldest didn't wanna come with us. He's trying to lose weight. We finished dinner and went home at about 11 pm. Parked the car and went inside,my eldest was telling something to his younger siblings.I asked him what was happening. He dared anybody to go to the kitchen.Well, the cage had a rat inside.Woh, that was quick I said to myself.Sure enough,I went to the kitchen and there it was the little bugger. Now my wife is scared shit of this rodent and I have a golf game very early in the morning. I know that I was not going to kill this rat. That would have been easy, because I have a good flowing drain in front of the house. So I took the cage outside and put it in the basket of my yamaha bike. All my kids asked me what was to be done.Told them, I was not going to kill it but to take it somewhere far and release it. Started the bike and off I went with the rat in the cage.I was actually taking a rat for a ride on my bike.Wonder how many people had the experience .............with a RAT.I rode and along the way,I managed to look at the rat from time to time.I was actually wondering what was the rat thinking of in its mind.Weird really. So I got to the place which I had in mind, took the cage out of the basket and bent sideway while trying to open the cage. The rat kept quiet while I was trying
to lift the trap door open.Once opened, it just stayed still.I made a sound and shook the cage a bit.Whoosh it went out,and ran into the tree bushes nearby.Well that was the last of that rat.Goodbye RAT.
