I'm in love with my car ( queen )
Perodua is the 2nd local car industry in this country. They produced small capacity cars compared to Proton which produced the bigger capacity ones. I bought one of their first automatic kancil model in the 90s.It was small and economical. One day we took it to a trip to Penang. Penang is about 700 km from our city Johor Bahru.Well we got there and though we didn't get to drive fast,we did have a comfortable and cool trip.Perodua has gone a long way since then.To me personally,Perodua has managed and produced better cars compared to its bigger brother.
there goes the neighbourhood (joe walsh)
6-00 PM
Maybe some of you do listen to joe walsh. That's the title to one of his album. Its not that it has anything to do with what I'm about to write. I want to write about my hometown, Johor Bahru.Well in my case its Kampong Mohd. Amin and Jalan Kolam Air.Not to distant from the city, about 10 minutes' drive.I was born and grew up here.My primary school was Sekolah Tambatan Rendah at jalan Sungai Chat ( from standard one till three ) and Sekolah Tambatan Tinggi at Jalan Nong Chik ( from standard four till six ). Its schooling for the less rich people in the old days. The richer folks' kids went to Sekolah Temenggung Abdul Rahman.Anyway my school was a decent school.I enjoyed the times I was there. My wife even came from the same school even though I didn't meet her then because she was 6 years younger than I was.We had thrree classrooms for the whole school. One for each class. A small school for those days. Most of the kids are from the area,Kampong Mohd. Amin, Kolam Air, Kampong Baru, Bukit Serene, Tarom and Mahmoodiah.Well most of us walked to school.I cannnot think of a kid who went to school in a car.I remember some of the teachers' name, the late cikgu jaafar, cikgu yusof, cikgu madon jidon. The ones that I still meet occasionally are cikgu sapiah, cikgu jamiah, cikgu jamil. There's also cikgu mat, whom I have never met since i left school but some say that he is living in taman sentosa.
My house was about 15 minutes' walk to school. Not really that far.I used to walk to school alone.Only when I reached school do I get the chance to meet my friends.I was not exactly a talkative kid. Quite reserved and shy.But I do get along well with the other kids at school. My late mother ( May Allah bless her soul ) used to send me nasi lemak on sundays during recess. We had fridays and saturdays off during those days.It was really a day which I was looking forward to because I only saw her on sundays because she was working in singapore and only came home on sundays. So my schooldays then was a very smooth sailing affair.I faired quite well in my studies and didn't had much trouble in the discipline areas. We had a very small stall as a canteen, managed by a makcik. It was 5 cents for a drink and 10 cents for a plate of nasi lemak, mee goreng or mee hoon goreng. I can only remember fun times during those days. When it rained heavily ,water will start to rise and caused flood.Good times then because we could swim and play games in the water.I hated it though because I had to bring my raincoat to school. It was that or the umbrella.Well, the raincoat was better because it wasn't bulky and I could chuck it in my school bag.I had to take off my shoes if it rained because I needed the shoes dry for the next day.Only had a pair to wear for the whole week of schooling.
Well that place i called kampong has changed quite a bit since then.We still have the basic roads only they are wider now.Traffic are heavy during peak hours.Kids don't walk to school anymore unless they live very near school. My school building has been demolished. Only the upper primary building is still being used as a maahad religous school. The little surau where my late grandfather used to be the noja has been upgraded to a masjid.

Is there anybody out there? ( Pink Floyd )
Boomtown Rats ( Bob Geldoff )
Well,I am not a person who is afraid of rats. But my wife does and so do my kids except my eldest son.I know that the house that we are in does have rats problem.I don't really mind since I don't actually see them. But the wife keeps telling me to get rid of them.Well a few suggestions were made in the form of rat poison, pest controller and so on.I don't really want to use any of these methods because I simply don't believe in them. When I was a kid,we usually have two ways of catching rats. Both of them effective but only one is deadly cruel. The other is a cage with a bait, and the rat will be trapped once it touched the bait. But during those days,it also meant the end of the world for the creature. We would just put the cage in a drain with flowing water and the poor bugger would just drown. Some chose to splash hot boiling water or just let nature ran its course, leaving it to die in the hot sun.Well, I have a thing about taking the life of another of ALLAH's creation. So today,I decided to buy the cage from the hardware store for RM8-90.It was gleaming new and I took it home on my ever reliable yamaha ss110.Got home and showed it to the wife and the kids.Kids nowadays are so inquisitive.Asking and waiting for explaination. So I did show them how the cage works. Then I went to the kitchen and got me a tiny bit of salted gelama fish.My wife told me to chuck the bit of fish into the fire so that it would have an inviting smell. So I did. What a smell it made.Put the bait into the cage and placed the open cage next to the fridge. All this happened under the scrutinying eyes of my four kids.My eldest was not there,he was out with friends. Then I went out to see a friend. My kids stayed home with the wife.Told them that we'd go out for dinner later tonight. We went out for dinner at about 9pm, my eldest didn't wanna come with us. He's trying to lose weight. We finished dinner and went home at about 11 pm. Parked the car and went inside,my eldest was telling something to his younger siblings.I asked him what was happening. He dared anybody to go to the kitchen.Well, the cage had a rat inside.Woh, that was quick I said to myself.Sure enough,I went to the kitchen and there it was the little bugger. Now my wife is scared shit of this rodent and I have a golf game very early in the morning. I know that I was not going to kill this rat. That would have been easy, because I have a good flowing drain in front of the house. So I took the cage outside and put it in the basket of my yamaha bike. All my kids asked me what was to be done.Told them, I was not going to kill it but to take it somewhere far and release it. Started the bike and off I went with the rat in the cage.I was actually taking a rat for a ride on my bike.Wonder how many people had the experience .............with a RAT.I rode and along the way,I managed to look at the rat from time to time.I was actually wondering what was the rat thinking of in its mind.Weird really. So I got to the place which I had in mind, took the cage out of the basket and bent sideway while trying to open the cage. The rat kept quiet while I was trying
to lift the trap door open.Once opened, it just stayed still.I made a sound and shook the cage a bit.Whoosh it went out,and ran into the tree bushes nearby.Well that was the last of that rat.Goodbye RAT.
